[OPEN QUESTION] What will happen to Apple now?

On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, Steve Jobs passed away. He was a very creative person that essentially brought every company he worked with back to life, including Apple and Pixar, with his visionary ideas and concepts. Now that he is gone, what do you think will happen to Apple as a company?

Under Steve’s reign, Apple released their most successful computers and gadgets, such as the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad. These things renewed the way people did things in their daily lives. People got to use less desk space by having an all-in-one computer, listening to music without carrying around CDs and bulky players, then spent less time on the computer because they had one in their phone, and more.

Will Apple keep things alive without his ideas? It would stand that they want to keep his concepts alive, but that will only last so long before it’s no longer innovation. Do you think the people at Apple can keep things fresh with new ideas that will capture the public’s affection?

It could go any of three ways, which would be keeping things the same, which will slowly go downhill, get better with new and more innovative ideas to make even more major improvements, or they could go back to old bad habits that will crush the company.

What do you think? Let us know what you have to say in the comments below.

You should read “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson.  There you may get a partial answer. (Being 42 chapters and almost 1700 pages itself, the book is a daunting, but compelling read.)

Jobs was a “once in a lifetime” genius. He was absolutely driven, and the people around him were painfully aware of that drive.

He lived in a different world, and his approach to innovative products will be hard to emulate.  He was a very complex person, who just danced to an entirely different tune than the rest of the world. That cannot be replicated.

I think he left a few things for the future,  but after that… Good luck Apple.

Thank you for your comment. I would like to get and read the book when time permits. As for the future of Apple, it seems there has already been a bit of a slow-down. Rumors are down about what will be coming from them and most that I have seen looked more like hopes or speculation. I guess this year will tell what direction Apple will be taking now their leader is no longer with them.
